SSQ’s commitment to sustainable development and societal responsibility

The third stage of our 5-year sustainable development and societal responsibility (SDSR) plan was reached in 2015. Actions taken provided results that were more than satisfactory. We are proud to report that the 5-year plan is 85% completed. A number of activities have taken place over the past few months.  

Here are some of the accomplishments, just to name a few!

• Over $100,000 raised through the SSQ Quebec City Marathon, donated to a local community center and residence, Mères et monde. SSQ also became the main sponsor for the new SSQ Marathon in the city of Longueuil, in the Montreal region.

• A 122% increase in group insurance claims submitted online.

• Launch of SSQ SMEs, a new eco-friendly and 100% paperless group insurance product tailored to small businesses.

• Energy efficiency: An 18% Improvement in energy efficiency at SSQ Place in Toronto, lowering energy costs by 15%.

• Healthy Enterprise – Elite Re-certification (certified by BNQ), a testament to SSQ’s efforts to incorporate health and well-being into the corporate culture.

• 1,000 trees planted since 2009 to offset greenhouse gases generated by the annual meeting.

Our responsibility is for this plan to stay on course so that SSQ continues to meet the challenges ahead on the social/human as well as economic/environmental scale to help build a better future.
